I'm going to be displaying my gowns and costumes here, probably mostly Lord of the Rings costumes, since I love them so much.
Right now, I have Arwen's Mourning Gown in the works. I was lucky enough to get 5 yards of black silk velvet in the mail by accident, so I thought, "I want a shiny!" I've made the gown before, but in navy blue moleskin, not velvet. I'm doing some things differently with this one :
Of course, velvet instead of suede
Going to put in an invisible zipper instead of working buttons down the front. I used the buttons on the first gown as a working opening, and now they tend to pull. So, this time, zipper down the back, decorative buttons down the front.
I'm going to try and hand-embroider the trim like the original on this one. As much as I loved the way the first trim came out, I'm masochistic and want it to be as close to the original as possible.
I'm debating whether or not to put the red insert at the neckline. I like the look of the original gown, but at the same time, I rather like the dress without it. There's plenty of time to decide, so I'm not going to worry about it right now.
Status of the dress right now :
Bodice, upper sleeves, and front of skirt cut out and pinned together. Looks like I only have enough fabric left to cut out the back of the dress, so I'll eventually have to order more to finish up the sleeves...probably about 6-8 yards, which means I'll have to scrounge up about $80 to be able to finish the dress. Grrr.
At least I'll have plenty of time to work on the trim!
Thank you to everyone that welcomed me to DA! I can't wait to start showing off my stuff here! ^_^
I also want to thank
